TFT Revolution! Set 18 Transitions the Game to Unreal Engine

Massive changes are coming from the very first weeks of Set 18!

Hold on tight, because the upcoming weeks are going to be a wild ride! With the start of the new, eighteenth season (set) named "Enchanted Wilds", Teamfight Tactics is entering a completely new era. In the first weeks of this forest adventure, the game will leave behind its previous limitations and fully transition to the powerful, modern Unreal Engine! This is the biggest and most exciting change in TFT history. The developers at Riot Games promise that this is an absolute breakthrough that will make the game even better, allowing them to finally go wild with new features that were previously impossible due to technical limitations. The hype is real – we are witnessing the future of the game being built!

What is this engine anyway, and why does it matter?

A game engine is the "heart" and "brain" of the entire application. Until now, TFT shared this heart with League of Legends (using the old Hextech engine). Because of this, developers' hands were often tied – if they wanted to add a cool new feature to TFT, it would sometimes break something in LoL, and vice versa. Transitioning to the world-renowned Unreal Engine means complete freedom. The game gains independence, allowing developers to implement new, complex mechanics much faster.

What does this mean for you at the start?

Don't worry about suddenly having to relearn everything. The engine change under the hood won't ruin the game's vibe. Here is what you need to know:

  • Visuals: The developers want the game to look and feel like the same good old TFT at launch. We can expect jaw-dropping new graphics in subsequent seasons.

  • Larger download on PC: The first update of Set 18 will be larger than usual on PCs. Subsequent patches will return to normal sizes.

  • Mobile players: If you play on a smartphone, you will just launch the game and the new app will update automatically. You don't need to uninstall anything!

  • Reset settings: Your favorite in-game settings will be reset, so you'll need to configure them again in the menu.

  • Account and purchases: You log in just like always. Your currencies, points, and all previously purchased tacticians, arenas, and booms will safely transition with you to the new version of the game!

Standalone client for TFT!

This is the news that many fans have been waiting for years. Currently, to play on a computer, you have to launch the League of Legends app. That will change soon! Around October (a few updates after the launch of Set 18), TFT will get its own, separate program (client). It will be lighter on our PCs and created exclusively for fans of tactical battles.

Prepare for tests and... bugs

The developers honestly admit that such a massive system change will initially bring bugs. Therefore, testing of the new version starts exceptionally early – in mid-July on the PBE test server. Every player will be able to help patch the game by reporting anything that doesn't work as it should.

Get ready, we are entering the golden era of Teamfight Tactics!
