Riot Games / Follow the Fix Announcement & Engine Overhaul

Riot Games has officially announced major updates for Teamfight Tactics. In Patch 18.6, the game is permanently leaving the League of Legends client and moving to its own dedicated PC app. Alongside this independence, Riot previewed the upcoming music-themed Set 19 and announced generous free rewards and cosmetic compensations for players following recent Unreal Engine migration bugs.

1. Standalone PC Client (Patch 18.6)#

In Patch 18.6, TFT officially leaves the League of Legends client to become a fully independent PC application. While the initial download requires dedicated disk space, players can still jump between League and TFT seamlessly with a single click.

  • Why the change: A dedicated client frees TFT from the legacy client's technical limitations, unlocking custom in-app events, a modern lobby interface, and full 3D model previews for Tacticians and Arenas in the store.
  • Launch Priorities: Patch 18.6 focuses primarily on engine stability, rapid queue entry, and core gameplay performance.

Upcoming Client Roadmap (Patch 18.7+):

  • Ranked Leaderboards: In-client regional ladder rankings make their return.
  • Party & Queue Enhancements: Faster party invites and instantaneous switching between solo and group queues.
  • Social End-Game Screens: Shareable match summaries, team comp screenshots, and copyable team codes for community builds.
  • Display Scaling: Native ultra-wide and 4K display scaling with crisp UI rendering.

2. Set 19: Music, Vinyl Records & DJ Mechanics#

The next TFT set introduces a vibrant musical theme that transforms both the client and the battlefield:

  • Tour Collection (Patch 19.1): Players unlock a customizable virtual backstage room featuring over 70 collectible decoration items to showcase memorabilia from their favorite musical acts and characters.
  • True Damage Trait: Designed around DJ vinyl mixing. Players can dynamically flip the trait mode during combat:
    • Side A: Grants aggressive combat buffs scaling with active win streaks.
    • Side B: Provides high-value recovery rewards and comeback power during loss streaks.

Riot will reveal full champions, traits, and cosmetics in the upcoming Set 19 Dev Drop.

3. Free Rewards & Player Compensation (Patch 19.1)#

To apologize for the gameplay and visual bugs encountered during the recent Unreal Engine update, Riot is rolling out substantial rewards across all accounts in Patch 19.1.

Set 19 Missions for All Players:

  • Play 1 Game: Receive 500 Treasure Tokens.
  • Play 20 Games: Receive a guaranteed Mythic Chibi Token redeemable for a random Mythic Chibi from a curated banner (excludes base Little Legends and Unbound Tacticians).

Cosmetic Compensation (Eligible accounts prior to Patch 18.7):

Delivered automatically upon login in Patch 19.1:

  • Owners of any Mythic Tactician or Arena: Receive 2 Mythic Medallions.
  • Owners of a Prestige Tactician: Receive an exclusive, unannounced new Mythic Chibi.

4. Technical Fixes (Follow the Fix Initiative)#

Patch 18.6 introduces critical quality-of-life and performance repairs under Riot's Follow the Fix commitment:

  • Carousel Pacing: Reduced carousel round wait times, restoring the responsive rhythm of earlier sets.
  • Mobile Enhancements: Fixed item border rendering and touch precision on mobile devices.
  • Social Systems: Enhanced in-game chat responsiveness and low-latency message delivery.
  • Streamer Mode: Streamer Mode returns with improved privacy toggles.
  • Combat Recap: Accurate real-time damage metrics and instant champion name tooltips when hovering over portraits.
